How we teach reading matters!

Structured Literacy Approach

Our literacy intervention utilises evidence-based techniques that enhance the learning process, making reading, writing, and spelling more accessible and enjoyable for children. Research highlights that effective literacy instruction is most successful when it is explicit, systematic, and cumulative. These principles are a priority in our practice. The teaching approach we use is built on the comprehensive body of research known as the Science of Reading. Click here to learn more about the research that shaped the approach and the evidence supporting its effectiveness.

How We Can Help

At Simply Speaking SLT, we're committed to nurturing and growing literacy skills in children through our Specialist Literacy Practitioners. In recent years we have recognised a growing need for specialist intervention in this area and we are here to help. Our literacy educators are experienced practitioners and educators who have received specialist training in the science of reading to ensure best practices when targeting literacy development.

Who We Can Help

We work with struggling readers who may need some extra support to fill in learning gaps. We also support children with dyslexia (and suspected dyslexia) by providing the 1:1 personalised intervention they need to learn to read.

How it Works

We recognise that most children struggling to read need personalised 1:1 teaching opportunities that suit their unique learning needs. We begin our work with a child by completing a comprehensive literacy assessment. This assessment helps us identify the gaps in the child's learning so we can plan individualised teaching to target specific areas of need for that child. Moving forward our weekly 1:1 intervention sessions aim to teach your child the skills they need to become a proficient reader. These sessions are individualised to meet your child's specific learning needs so we can create a positive learning environment for them. We recognise the need for child engagement and work to make the lessons enjoyable for them.
